About

The House is an art hub and gallery focused on contemporary art and research. It celebrates the professional work of artists and exceptional creative personalities. Through its diverse activities and programs tailored to various audience groups, it offers a space for multilayered, inspiring interaction and artistic dialogue.

The House’s collection reflects a wide range of artistic personalities, approaches, and media. It includes classical visual arts as well as conceptual practices. It is interested in performative forms, the use of new technologies, and the emotional charge and narrative that the works convey. This, combined with a strong emphasis on the high quality of selected artworks, makes it a unique project in the Czech context.

The space is more than just a gallery. It is also home to a foundation dedicated to the long-term support of artists. It serves as a venue for meetings, lectures, social events, and collaborative projects. We believe that art is a unique tool for inspiration and critical self-reflection for both artists and audiences.

The House is currently located in a modernist villa designed by architect Tomáš Šašek. However, its reach extends far beyond its physical space.

The House Gallery’s architectural history goes back to the 1930s when it was designed by architect Tomáš Šašek.

The Gallery’s modern iteration highlights the original spatial qualities of the house while partially preserving the building’s original appeal and highlighting the space’s century-old charm in a new context. The architectural studio Paranormal office was responsible for its reconstruction.

The exterior of the house preserves the original landscape design, with a new layer created by wild invasive plants, slightly tamed, so as to create the ideal conditions for innovation, artistic expression, and a sculpture park.

The House Gallery Foundation is a non-profit institution that supports cultural and charitable activities related to promotion of Czech contemporary art. Its mission is to create an environment that enables the full development of young artists.

The House has supported so far:

In collaboration with the Prague City Gallery, the exhibition Bruce Weber: My Education

Noviny, an original project by photographer Robin Malátek

The book by Matěj Frank – The Death of the Sun. Empty Places

The exhibition of photographer Benedikt Renč and Seana Thomase as part of Ch.ACO in Santiago de Chile

and many others…
